I shrink back
hiding behind
Any handy curtain of comfort zone
I back away
so timid-
not knowing what to say
where to go
I jump at every noise
I scream at every hint of losing
I don't know what is out there
what could happen
So I grab more tightly to mine
and complain of not being loved
enough
looking to reassure
seeking to calm
That is me
there, under the table
checking the locked doors- again
Holding my keys between my fingers
